Eyeglass prescription in Reno NV

As vital as your eyeglasses are to your vision, and by consequence your entire life, both professional and personal, it is obvious that they need to be well-fitted and the prescription up to date. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, yours might be lacking in those departments. Here at the office of Tyson F. Kales, you can be confident that we’re not satisfied unless your glasses fit you perfectly and comfortably, and our eyeglass prescription in Reno NV is the most current it can be.

When you first get your eyeglasses, they’re an excellent match for your vision requirements, but those are always evolving. After a year in service, your prescription might no longer be the best one for you. It’s not uncommon for excellent vision to be reduced down to adequate. In some cases, you could even end up with sub par vision while wearing glasses that were once ideal. And if you need your glasses for something like driving, that could be a hazardous situation. We make it a top priority for our eyeglass prescription in Reno NV so to be equal to what your needs are at this moment. You can depend on them being crafted by our optical department to the utmost of precision. In other words, an up to date prescription requires not just the writing of it, but the filling of it. We have both covered. Our eyeglass prescription in Reno NV will, of course, be housed inside a pair of our designer frames. Before you leave our store, we will make certain that they are well-fitted; neither too loose nor too tight. The glasses that are comfortable are the ones that you’ll feel good about wearing when you need to.

Schedule a convenient time with us to come in for your yearly eye examination.

Reno Eye Test

Contact lens versus eyeglass prescriptions in Reno

Reno eye test

Reno eye test

At our vision practice, Tyson F. Kales, our expert optometrist, Dr. Tyson F. Kales, can provide you with either a comprehensive eye exam or a contact lens exam and fitting. If you are getting contact lenses or prescription eyeglasses, you will need to have a different eye exam, although both will include a Reno eye test to make sure that your eyes are healthy.

During both types of eye exams, you will receive a Reno eye test to make sure that your eyes do not have any diseases or disorders including: glaucoma; cataracts; macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy; dry eyes; retinal tears; or other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. And, during both eye exams, your eyes will be screened for their visual acuity to determine the exact cause of your vision problem. The refractive errors that may be present include nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. All of these refractive errors can be fixed with either contact lenses or prescription eyeglasses. However, if you are getting contact lenses, additional measures will need to be taken to make sure that your contact lenses fit your eyes perfectly. If contact lenses do not fit your eyes precisely right, the cornea can become irritated by the contact lens wear, and can even eventually become damaged. This is why it is so important that your contact lenses fit you just right, and that your contact lens prescription is updated periodically. As part of a contact lens exam, the curvature of your cornea will be measured as well as the size of your iris, to make sure that the contact lenses will fit you perfectly. Even if you are purchasing color-changing lenses which do not provide you with vision correction, you will still need to have a contact lens prescription to make sure they will fit your eyes right.

For an appointment to come in for a Reno eye test as part of your contact lens or comprehensive eye exam, contact us today.

If you have not had a complete eye exam over the past year, we urge you to contact us at our practice, Tyson F. Kales, for a comprehensive eye exam. At our Reno Nevada eye care center, our top-notch optometrist Dr. Tyson F. Kales, can provide you with complete eye care and eye screenings for eye diseases.

When you come to our vision practice for an eye exam and eye screenings, your eyes will be checked for their visual acuity and to make sure that they do not have any diseases or disorders which threaten your precious vision. Your eyes will be checked for refractive errors. If it is found that you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism, our eye doctor will be able to write a lens prescription for you which will allow you to see clearly. You can also be fitted for contact lenses during a contact lens exam and fitting. Both types of eye exams will include eye screenings to ensure that your eyes are healthy. During our vision exam, your eyes will be screened for many different eye diseases and disorders including: glaucoma; macular degeneration; cataracts; diabetic retinopathy; retinal tears; dry eyes; and other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. There are many serious eye diseases which show no symptoms in the early stages. However, it is during this time that these eye diseases should be treated to prevent serious vision loss. Glaucoma is just one disease that shows no symptoms in the early stages. If glaucoma is diagnosed during a vision exam, while it is still in the early stages, it can be easily treated with medicated eye drops. However, if glaucoma is not found and is led to progress, permanent damage will eventually be made to the optic nerve. At this point, it will be impossible for your good vision to be restored. So, as you can see, having annual eye exams at our Reno Nevada eye care center is extremely important to your eye health.

Explanation of optical prescriptions and 20/20 vision in Reno Nevada

Eye specialist Reno Nevada

Eye specialist Reno Nevada

Did you ever wonder how optical prescriptions work? Our eye specialist Reno Nevada, Dr. Tyson F. Kales, will be happy to talk to you about this. At our vision practice, Tyson F. Kales, our eye specialist can also provide you with a comprehensive eye exam or contact lens exam and fitting during which he can write a prescription for you for vision correction.

When you come to see our eye specialist Reno Nevada for a comprehensive eye exam, if any refractive errors are found, such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness, our eye doctor will write a vision prescription for you. Have you ever heard that a patient has 20/20 vision? This means that the patient is able to see at 20 feet what they should be able to see at 20 feet. However, this does not necessarily mean that they do not have any other vision problems. On your prescription, you will see the abbreviations OS and DS. These stand for oculus sinister, the left eye, and oculus dexterous, the right eye. If you see the abbreviation OU, it refers to both eyes. There will also be numbers on your prescription. Generally, the further away the number is from zero, greater vision correction is needed for that eye. If there is a plus sign in front of the number, it means that you are farsighted. If you see a minus sign in front of the number, it means that you are nearsighted. People who are farsighted can generally see things at a distance, but have trouble seeing things close up. When a patient is nearsighted, it means that they can more easily see things close up than they can at a distance. The numbers represent a special unit of measurement for lens focusing power. For example, a prescription of -1.00 is not as strong as a prescription of -3.50. However, in both cases it shows that the patient the prescription for is nearsighted.
